Harris Chapel Baptist Church - "Not I, But Christ"

Why am I here?
How can I make sense of my life?
Do I really have a purpose?

We've all asked these questions
But there is only One who holds the answers…

Real Love

This One truly loves you and wants you to have a real relationship with Him.  He is the answer you have been searching for.  His love is unconditional and everlasting.  He offers you the promise of eternal, abundant life.  In fact, you will never have any true purpose, meaning, or satisfaction without Him.

How Do We Know This?
God is also the author of the most important book ever written. In it, He says:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that whoever believes in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life”- John 3:16

Separated

Being at peace with God is not automatic, because by our own choices, we are separated from Him. This separation is at the root of our selfishness, loneliness, and feelings of meaninglessness. We all suffer from the same problem – sin. Our sin separates us from God.

How Do We Know This?
“There is no one who is righteous, not even one”- Romans 3:10
“For all have sinned and fallen short of God's glorious standard” – Romans 3:23

Because God is holy and just, He cannot allow sin to go unpunished. Just like there is a penalty for breaking Man's laws, there is a penalty for breaking God's.

That penalty is death.
“The wages (penalty) for sin is death…”- Romans 6:23

The Cross

Because God loves us, He does not want us to remain separated from Him. But because we are all sinners, we cannot pay for our own sin. It takes a perfect sacrifice to please God and we aren't perfect. Religion, good deeds, even baptism cannot pay for our sin.

So God paid for our sins Himself. God sent His only son, Jesus. He came to suffer the punishment that you and I deserve.  Three days after dying on the cross, Jesus rose from the dead.

How Do We Know This?
“For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom He paid was not mere gold or silver. He paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God” – 1 Peter 1:18-19

“He was wounded and crushed for our sins. He was beaten that we might have peace. He was whipped, and we were healed! All of us have strayed away like sheep. We have left God's paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the guild and sins of us all” – Isaiah 53:5-6

Your Response

Simply knowing that God loves you and gave His Son for you is not enough. You must choose for yourself to follow Him. God has done His part, now it's your move.

Turning TO God means you are turning FROM your way and choosing God's. It means you give your life over to Him and give Him control of your actions, thoughts, habits, attitudes, everything!

It all happens by faith. Faith is trusting in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life.

How Do We Know This?
“For it is by grace (receiving something you don't deserve) you have been saved, through faith-and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast” – Ephesians 2:8-9

What Must I Do?

 1. Admit to God that you need Him in your life.
2. Repent and be willing to turn away from your sin.
3. Invite Jesus to come and live in your heart and life.

Pray a simple prayer like this one:

“Lord Jesus, I know that you love me. I know that I am a sinner and do not deserve your forgiveness. I believe you died to pay for my sins and rose again for my salvation. I invite you into my heart and life as Savior and Lord. Help me to be the person you created me to be. Thank you for saving me. Amen.
If you prayed this prayer from your heart, then you are now a child of God.

How Do We Know This?
“But as many as received Him to them He gave the right to become the children of God” - John 1:12
